IIT Delhi starts Golden Jubilee Celebrations

From its humble beginning as a College of Engineering on August 16, 1961, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi entered the 50th glorious year of its academic life. It was a time to celebrate, to introspect, to consolidate and to plan for its future. This could not have been a better choice than the Hon’ble President of India and the Visitor of the Institute – Smt. Partibha Devisingh Patil to be the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function of the Golden Jubilee Year celebrations on 16th August 2010. The Hon’ble Minister for Human Resource Development – Shri Kapil Sibal was the Guest of Honour and Sh. R.P. Agrawal, Chaiman, Board of Governors presided over the function. .... more

   Reminiscence by Batch of 66

August 16, 1961 was a special day in the lives of the 120 odd students as the Institution they were to join, and which was to be their home for the next five years, was inaugurated in a solemn ceremony in the Textile Block. We had been selected through an interview process based on our marks in the school leaving examination – though some of those who joined had cleared the JEE for the other IITs. Wonder what percentage of those who had not appeared for the JEE would have made it through. The JEE became the test for entrance after conversion of the College of Engineering & Technology to IIT Delhi in1963. .... more
